Polyaniline (PANI) can shield electromagnetic (EM) waves. Therefore, we dyed polyester with PANI to prepare a cloth for EM wave protection. Spectroscopic measurements for the PANI-coated polyester cloth, named CPANI,and pure PANI were performed by infrared absorption and reflection optical spectroscopies for comparison. Appropriate dyeing of polyaniline to the cloth was confirmed. Fine surface images of CPANI were observed by scanning electron microscopy. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements of CPANI were also examined. EM waves generated from a Tesla coil were shielded by CPANI. This study can yield a new technique for performing polymer cloth dyeing.
