This paper examines how the value of modern architecture is generally understood and how the idea of modification is developed, by focusing on the recent modern building renovations and verifying the potential of those facts to apply and update the heritage conservation system. The 14 renovation cases done before the national designation/registration of cultural property were analyzed and concluded that reviewing the Genjohenko rules will be an effective means of developing heritage conservation in modern architecture.
