The deformation mechanisms of an α″-martensitic Ti–8Mo alloy were investigated by ex-situ electron microscopy tensile tests. Two deformation twins, 110〈11¯0〉α″ and 130〈3¯10〉α″ were simultaneously generated by two pathways: (1) direct from primary laths and (2) via reorientation twins. The generation of deformation twinning is strongly dependent on orientation and follows Schmid's law. The dominant twinning in α″ martensite was determined by comparing the shuffle magnitudes calculated from the lattice parameter and the magnitude of lattice modulation. 110〈11¯0〉α″ and 130〈3¯10〉α″ twins are activated simultaneously in Ti alloys with a low β-stabilizer content, such as Ti–8Mo alloy.
