Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by the Co-operative Group and Pegasus Group to conduct an archaeological evaluation of a c. 5.3 ha parcel of land located to the east of Hinton Park Woodland Burial Ground, off Wyndham Road, Bransgore, Hampshire. A total of 43 trial trenches, each measuring 25 m in length and 2 m wide, were excavated. Archaeology was observed in 29 of the 43 trenches excavated and revealed two areas of archaeological activity, these areas corresponded with a high degree of accuracy to the geophysical survey. In the western extent of the site a rectilinear enclosure was identified, with another enclosure of the same form located in the east. A 'D'-shaped enclosure was also present in the east. Internal pits and ditches were also present. Pottery recovered is suggestive of a prehistoric date, with some sherds dated to the Early - Middle Bronze Age. Two medieval rubbish pits and post-medieval field boundaries depicted on OS mapping dating to the 1930s were also revealed during the evaluation.
