Purpose This paper aims to explore how entrepreneurial networks, organizational learning and business growth evolve in platform-based enterprises amid the New Industrial Revolution, using Ningbo E-Commerce City as a case. Design/methodology/approach This study adopts a longitudinal approach, tracking the development of Ningbo E-Commerce City over time to analyze the evolution of platform-based enterprises’ entrepreneurial dynamics. Findings (1) Formation period: Small, simple networks rely on the platform for partner connections and existing knowledge learning. (2) Rapid growth: Expanded networks use acquired and experimental learning to drive entrepreneurship. (3) Maturity: Large, stable networks focus on experimental innovation with strong connections and diverse partnerships. Originality/value This study uniquely examines the evolutionary dynamics of platform-based enterprises across formation, growth and maturity stages, linking network development, organizational learning modes and entrepreneurial growth in the context of the New Industrial Revolution, with insights from Ningbo E-Commerce City as a practical case.
