ARCUS was commissioned by the Bolsover Kingdom Hall Project Committee to undertake an archaeological watching at the site of the former Pentecostal Church, High Street, Bolsover, Derbyshire. The Kingdom Hall was to be built partially upon the foundations of the Pentecostal Church and so the excavations carried out were fairly limited. The majority of the material excavated had been dumped on the site to create a level ground surface, probably when the church was constructed in the 1960s. A number of sandstone structures were identified within the excavations and cartographic evidence showed these to be of probable nineteenth century date, corresponding with structures identified on the Ordnance Survey map of 1898. No artefacts of archaeological significance were recovered during the watching brief.
