The third season of an Operation Nightingale excavation alongside volunteers from Redesdale Archaeology Group (RAG) excavating an Iron Age settlement. All excavation was carried out by hand. This excavation formed the third and final phase of an Operation Nightingale project at Yatesfield working with Wounded, Injured and Sick (WIS) veterans and serving personnel, alongside local volunteers from the Redesdale Archaeology Group (RAG). The 2024 excavation focused on a previously uninvestigated circular structure identified during the earlier Revitilising Redesdale Lidar Project. This excavation revealed the well-preserved remains of a stone roundhouse built on a platform cut into the hillside. Finds of Iron Age pottery and Roman glass were recovered from the rubble of the roundhouse suggesting a Romano British date. A second area was opened on the site of the previous excavation to fully investigate a possible hearth revealed on the last day of the 2023 and a test pit was dug close by to test the natural substrate deposits.
