This preliminary study investigated the effects of supplemental glucose and sodium chloride on early vegetative growth in fava bean (Vicia faba L.) over 31 days. Three treatments were evaluated: control (tap water), sugar-supplemented water, and salt-supplemented water. The sugar treatment demonstrated significantly enhanced total biomass (49 cm vs. 34 cm control, +44%). Salt-treated plants showed delayed emergence but recovered to exceed control performance (39 cm total). These findings suggest exogenous carbohydrate supplementation accelerates early growth velocity in legume seedlings. Limitations include small sample size (n=1 per treatment) and uncontrolled environmental variables.
