The research in development of autonomous vehicle system is becoming increasingly recent years because of the need of vehicle intelligence and optimizing traffic management. The utilization of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and sensor technologies make these dreams to reality by taking the intelligence driving decisions without human interventions. Hence, in this paper, we explore a comprehensive survey of machine learning techniques applied in autonomous driving including perception, localization, path planning and control. It also presents the popular datasets used for the research on autonomous driving, real time applications and challenges. This survey highlights the role of machine learning and sensor fusion in enabling safe efficient and reliable autonomous vehicle systems. Despite the significant progress in autonomous vehicle system, it faces several challenges in context to safety, reliability, ethical decision making and environmental changes.
