Monitoring groundworks relating to flood alleviation works for Severn Trent Water The works revealed the same stratigraphic profile as recorded in the adjacent evaluation, with natural sands and gravels overlain by a thick alluvial layer of sandy clay, subsoil and modern topsoil. No archaeological features were observed or finds recovered in the south-west of the site, in the area of Trenches 1-3, with only a spread of levelling material under a footpath and a waste pit in Trench 4 towards The Old Beams public house, containing tiles, ceramics and oyster shells of post-medieval / 19 th century date, considered likely to be related to when the public house was Walshes Farmhouse. No finds, features, structures or deposits were observed that related to the medieval features previously recorded at the adjacent site to the south-west.
