AAC Ahead (BW1141) is a hollow-stemmed, awned, and high yielding Canada Western Red Spring (CWRS) wheat cultivar suited to the growing conditions of Western Canada. AAC Ahead yielded 5399 kg ha-1 (6% higher than AAC Brandon and 14% higher yielding than Carberry) in the Central Bread Wheat Cooperative (CBWC) registration trials (2022-2024). AAC Ahead attained a mean plant height of 84 cm and was 4cm shorter than Glenn (91 cm). The lodging score of AAC Ahead was 2.8 (1-9 scale), which is better than AAC Brandon (3.2). AAC Ahead matured at 92.4 days after seeding, which was similar to Carberry. The test weight of AAC Ahead was 79.9 kg hL-1 and 1000-kernel weight was 33.9 mg kernel-1. The grain protein content of AAC Ahead was 14.5%, similar to AAC Brandon. AAC Ahead expressed a moderately resistant reaction to Fusarium head blight (FHB; Fusarium spp.). AAC Ahead had an intermediate resistant reaction to leaf rust (Puccinia triticina Erikss.), resistant reaction to stem rust (Puccinia graminis Pers. f. sp. tritici Eriks. & E. Henn), and moderately resistant reaction to stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis Westend). AAC Ahead had resistant reaction to common bunt Tilletia caries (DC) Tul. & C. Tul. and T. laevis J.G. Kühn. AAC Ahead was resistant to orange wheat blossom midge (OWBM) (Sitodiplosis mosellana Géhin). AAC Ahead was classified into CWRS wheat class by the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) and registered with Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
