Today, increasing pressures from the climate crisis and more stringent regulations are forcing companies to rethink their logistics activities in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agenda. Therefore, this literature review’s purpose is to identify relevant concepts related to the intersection of logistics, sustainability, circular economy, and Industry 4.0. This article renames this combination as “Advanced logistics 4.0” to support companies to face their current challenges. The literature review identifies 179 articles and through content analysis and focus groups, a maturity model for Advanced logistics 4.0 is developed. The maturity model, based on a set of practices and Industry 4.0 technologies, is designed to support and guide companies in the implementation of Advanced logistics 4.0 and to help them achieve specific SDG targets. Finally, a research agenda and practical implications are presented to guide scholars and practitioners to further extend the research on Advanced logistics 4.0.
