Abstract The most dominant perspectives used to understand adult learning and guide the practice of adult education continue to be those that focus on learning as an individual endeavor with little regard for the sociocultural environment. Sociocultural theory therefore holds promise for incorporating multiple worldviews into the study and practice of adult education.
