A method for the inversion of the Bloch equation without relaxation is described. It converts the continuous Bloch equation to a discrete analog, which is solved explicitly. The theory enables us to determine the space of physically realizable excitation profiles. Given an arbitrary desired result, it is approximated by a physically realizable profile. A pulse is then generated that will yield that profile.
