The very existence of an object in a museum demonstrates that the past (and what we have made of it and in it) does not die. An object is best viewed as indicative of process, rather than static relations, and this process is ongoing in museums as elsewhere, so that there is a series of continuous social relations surrounding the object connecting 'field' and 'museums.'
