Theoretical visual and UV light curves for the decay phase of classical novae are presented and compared with observations for Nova Cyg 1978. Using optically thick wind theory, sequences are derived of models consisting of a white dwarf of mass 1.2, 1.0, and 0.8 solar masses and an envelope of uniform chemical composition through which a steady wind flows. It is shown how estimates of white dwarf mass and distance can be achieved by comparing the characteristics of nova outbursts with the characteristics predicted by optically thick wind theory.
