Summary Nutrition information on food labels is intended to help people make an informed choice of food. Information alone is not sufficient ‐ it must be understood and be capable of being used. This survey provides evidence that some concepts and terms are not understood. They either need reconsidering or a comprehensive education programme is needed to improve knowledge and understanding.
