Velvet worms occupy a pivotal phylogenetic position for deciphering the evolution of Panarthropoda, yet their exact placement within this clade remains debated. While mitochondrial genomes provide valuable molecular markers for resolving deep evolutionary relationships, taxonomic sampling within Onychophora remains severely limited. Furthermore, early studies reported atypical mitogenomic features in this phylum, including extensive gene rearrangements and truncated transfer RNAs (tRNAs). However, due to this sparse representation, the pervasiveness and evolutionary significance of these genomic peculiarities across the entire clade remain poorly understood. So,we sequenced and assembled three novel mitogenomes representing both extant onychophoran families and conducted comparative analyses with five previously published species.
