Employing the Rokeach Value Survey, the National Opinion Research Center measured the values of an area probability sample of adult Americans in 1968 and 1971. Most values remained stable but certain values underwent significant change over this three-year period. To determine whether the changes were manifested in all segments of American society or only in certain ones, the value rankings were further analyzed for Americans varying in sex, race, income, education, and age.
