Academic libraries are under enormous pressure to demonstrate their value through assessment. As a department within a larger institution, libraries also need to show how they support the mission and goals of the college. Strategic plans, which set the direction of an organization for the near future, can provide insight into how libraries are prioritizing goals, and the extent to which they are assessing those goals. Campus administrators and library directors will be interested in seeing the extent to which libraries are aligning their activities with those of the parent institution and holding themselves accountable for achievement of their goals.
