Railway static power conditioners (RPCs) are installed at some substations on the Tokaido Shinkansen to keep power supply voltage fluctuations at specific voltage regulation points within a certain range in order to meet the technical requirements for receiving electrical power from the utility company. Variations in load around Hamamatsu station are relatively large with the current operating schedule for the Tokaido Shinkansen, which is referred to as the “Nozomi 12-train schedule”. Thus, it is necessary to take measures to mitigate fluctuations in the power supply voltage. In this study, we propose a method to utilize the capacity of the RPCs to mitigate fluctuations in power supply voltage to address this issue.
