ABSTRACT Using evidence taken from a university lecturer's private journal and the work journals of his students, this article traces the influences on his choice of teaching method. The conclusion is that theory-based teaching of experiential learning is possibly hypocritical and may also be promoting false theory. An alternative discovery approach is proposed in which students and lecturers are encouraged to discover their own experiential learning processes.
