Abstract

This article investigates indirect instructional leadership as demonstrated by a secondary principal. Using data from a qualitative study of high school principals, the article presents organizational factors that enhance the principal's ability to exert an indirect rather than direct influence on instruction. Also considered is the potential importance of indirect leadership behaviors for restructured school settings.
