A Study of Cross-cultural Narrative Strategies in the Palace Museum's “Silk Road” Themed Exhibitions

For many years, museums in China have explored narrative approaches to Silk Road themed exhibitions to promote cross-cultural understanding and exchange among civilizations. Within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, new curatorial practices have emerged. In 2024, the Palace Museum presented three “Silk Road” themed exhibitions that adopted a cross-cultural narrative characterized by multiple perspectives and dialogic equality. By organizing narrative themes, resources, strategies, and effects, these exhibitions sought to construct a cross-cultural exhibition narrative framework, though certain limitations remain. In the context of global civilizational exchange, museums should further develop systematic cross-cultural narrative approaches to meet the demands of cross-cultural communication and contribute to the cultural development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
