This paper presents the main results of the Diagnosis of the International Migrant Population residing in the municipality of Contagem/MG, carried out in partnership between PUC Minas – Contagem Campus and the Municipal Secretariat for Human Rights and Citizenship. The research aimed to support the elaboration of the Municipal Policy for the Migrant Population, established by Decree No. 096/2021. With a quantitative and qualitative approach, data from CadÚnico, the Municipal Secretariats of Education, Health and Social Development were used, in addition to interviews with support networks and migrant leaders. The majority of the registered migrant population is composed of Haitians, Venezuelans and Colombians, with a predominant profile of young adults in a situation of socio-economic vulnerability. The data shows high poverty rates, especially among Venezuelans, and an average level of education higher than that of the Brazilian population registered in the municipality. In the area of education, the Escola Sem Fronteiras Project stands out, aimed at the linguistic and pedagogical inclusion of migrant students, although challenges related to age-grade distortion and proficiency in the Portuguese language still persist. In the health area, the analysis was hampered by the lack of systematized nationality records, but it highlighted the need for attention to mental health and chronic diseases. Support networks develop fundamental actions, such as teaching Portuguese, social assistance and referrals. The diagnosis demonstrates the importance of intersectoral actions, production of qualified data and active listening of migrant communities to consolidate public policies for reception, inclusion and guarantee of rights.
