The present study investigated the phytoplankton community structure in the Khanapur reservoir, Taluka Ajara, District Kolhapur, of Maharashtra. Monthly sampling conducted from January to December 2025 revealed a diverse assemblage of microalgae. A total of 25 species were identified, belonging to five major classes: Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Euglenophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Dinophyceae, Bacillariophyceae (Diatoms) were the dominant groups, suggesting a healthy, oxygenated environment with moderate nutrient levels. This study provides baseline data for the sustainable management of local water resources in the Western Ghats.
