She graduated from the University of Bergen School of Medicine in 1981, received board certification in internal medicine in 1991 and cardiology in 1994, and defended her dr. med. thesis in 1999. Her research focuses on hypertensive heart disease, including sex differences and comorbidities such as obesity and aortic valve stenosis.
