The article examines the history of the formation and development of the management school that emerged at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences during the period of Russia’s transition to a market economy. The stages, directions and innovative results of both theoretical and applied management research in the post-Soviet period are highlighted. Among the wide range of issues that are the subject of management research, particular attention is paid to the formation of new areas of management science, a significant contribution to the development of which was made by the work of the Institute’s research team. A meaningful description of the stages of the scientific school’s evolution is given in the context of ongoing transformational processes in the Russian economy, which present new management challenges. The institutional aspect of research, modern challenges and strategic trends in the development of management science are considered in detail.
