The present article intends to portray the views of school unit teachers on the efficiency of the complex work of the principals of such units. Quantitative research was conducted with the help of a questionnaire. The 108 105 questions indicated the efficiency of administrative duties in school units and were grouped into four categories-axes of evaluation. A couple of relevant evaluation criteria were assigned to each category. This means that the efficiency of the work of the principals of school units was evaluated on the basis of a total of 108 105 indicators, through nine criteria and 4 evaluation categories. The questionnaires were computerized and remained nameless. The reference population of the research included secondary education teachers of the regional unit of East Attica, who formed the sample of the 152 people of the research. The research results showed that the principals are particularly interested in creating a constructive school atmosphere and an educational culture and they carry out their administrative and organizational duties to a satisfactory extent, but they should be better trained and have more typical qualifications and a more general scientific and educational background. The supervision and evaluation of the educational work carried out at school units by the principal could also be improved. The results of the comparisons between the four axes controlling the efficiency of the work of school unit principals and the gender of the teachers participating in the research showed no statistically significant differences. The same comparisons, with regard to the age groups of the teachers, generally revealed differences among the age groups regarding both the fulfilment of responsibilities and the scientific and professional development of the principal. Differences are recorded between younger teachers and other age groups with regard to the way the legislative framework is implemented in organizing the work of the teachers’ association and carrying out administrative and organizational work as well as in the scientific and professional development of the principal. Younger teachers evaluate lower the efficiency of administrative work at school units. Similar differences are recorded when comparing the axes of evaluation with the years of service of the participants, with regard to the professional commitment and competence of the principal, the fulfillment of responsibilities as well as the professional and scientific development of the principal.
