Introduction: Stroke remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the country, and understanding its risk factors is crucial for effective prevention strategies. Objective: This study aims to explore the risk factors associated with stroke incidence in Indonesia, utilizing data from the 2007 – 2023 Survei Kesehatan Indonesia (SKI). Methods: The methodology employed involves a literature review of the sociodemographic conditions across various regions in Indonesia, with a focus on data collected from national health surveys such as the RISKESDAS (National Health Survey) reports from 2007, 2013, and 2018, and the SKI (Indonesian Health Profile) report of 2023. Results: There was an increase from 2007 to 2018 for the number of stroke cases, but decreased in 2023, but for risk factors such as diabetes mellitus there was no correlation, because diabetes experienced an increase in 2023 even though the number of stroke cases increased. Conclusion: The factors that influence the rise and fall of stroke cases are not only risk factors but can also be seen from socioeconomic status, education, and cultural factors on stroke incidence are discussed. The findings underline the need for targeted public health interventions to reduce the increasing incidence of stroke in Indonesia, by emphasizing early detection, lifestyle changes, and increasing awareness at both the individual and community levels. The results of this review provide a basis for future public health research and strategies aimed at reducing the burden of stroke in Indonesia.
