The paper discusses the role of the electric power industry in ensuring economic stability and electrification of Russia, as well as the industry's contribution to the country's GDP. The main problems of the industry in the current conditions are given, as well as the dynamics of indicators. The main sub-sectors of the sphere, the potential and development prospects of each of them are analyzed. The key factors contributing to the development of the industry, including the introduction of energy-saving technologies, international cooperation and the development of high-voltage direct current lines, are considered. The data on the leading companies in the industry, their production volumes and modernization trends are presented.
