Poetic translation on the pages of the journal Russian Herald (Russkiy Vestnik) is hitherto understudied. Meanwhile, the identification of the features of the development of Western European poetic heritage of the 19th century by translators of one of the most influential domestic periodicals significantly complements the ideas about the vector of ideological and artistic development of literary journals in Russia in historical perspective. In this regard, an analysis of the pool of translated poetic works of the 19th century published during the entire period of publication of the journal Russian Herald was made. The article concludes that the publishing principles of M. N. Katkov and the editorial policy of the journal in general were manifested, among other things, through the nature of the presentation of the works of a particular poet of Western Europe of the 19th century on the pages of the magazine, as well as the thematic selection of texts.
