Abstract New buds were removed during the growing season to promote dwarf shoot proliferation in red pines at ages 15, 45, and 90-110. Only early June treatment of the main stem of 15-year-old trees appreciably increased the number of shoots which could be used for scions. Results suggest promotion of proliferation of dwarf shoot meristems in red pine by shearing is not likely to increase scion supply except in young trees.
