Abstract Ten years after being planted, yellow-poplars on the southern end of the Cumberland Plateau were tallest in moist, well-drained bottoms. Tree height decreased with position up the slope at a greater rate on south than on north slopes. At least 70 percent of the trees survived on all but middle and upper south slopes.
