This research paper examines the socio-economic conditions of female domestic workers in the urban informal sector of Delhi.The study aims to understand the challenges faced by these workers, including employment conditions, wage disparities, social security, and overall quality of life.Female domestic workers constitute a significant segment of the informal workforce, yet they often endure precarious employment conditions characterized by low wages, long working hours, and a lack of formal contracts.The absence of social security benefits such as health insurance, pensions, and paid leave exacerbates their vulnerability.Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis, this paper sheds light on the systemic issues affecting these workers.In-depth interviews and surveys reveal the extent of exploitation, abuse, and discrimination faced by female domestic workers.The findings highlighted significant wage disparities and the impact of socioeconomic background on their employment opportunities and living conditions.Furthermore, the study explored the intersectionality of gender, class, and migration status, which compounds their marginalization.The paper concluded with recommendations for policy interventions aimed at improving the livelihood of female domestic laborers in Delhi.These include the implementation of comprehensive social security schemes, stricter enforcement of labor laws, and awareness campaigns to educate workers about their rights.By addressing these issues, policymakers can ensure better protection and recognition for female domestic workers, contributing to their socio-economic upliftment and overall quality of life.
