Key Points

  • Ukraine's transport infrastructure faces significant challenges, including the loss of routes and network overloads.
  • Key findings indicate a massive impact on logistics, with air and sea routes lost and rail and roads overloaded.
  • A systemic approach combined with analytical methods helps to devise strategies for wartime and post-war transport systems.
  • The findings support the need for modernization, suggesting practical applications for government to restore logistics chains.

Abstract

Objectives. The study aims to assess the resilience of Ukraine’s transport system in adapting to wartime challenges, as well as to identify opportunities for its modernization in order to ensure both national and international logistics in the post-war period. Method. The research employs the following methods: analysis and synthesis — to assess the state of roads, transit volumes, and infrastructure losses; comparison — to contrast Ukraine’s transport system with those of other countries; induction and deduction — to draw general conclusions from specific observations; a systemic approach — to develop comprehensive strategies for the transport system under wartime and post-war conditions; and graphical methods — to visualize the findings. The results. The study identifies the key challenges facing Ukraine’s transport infrastructure, including the loss of air and sea routes, the overloading of rail and road networks, and the insufficient level of high-speed infrastructure, while also highlighting positive developments within the framework of the state program “Great Construction”. Scientific novelty. The novelty of the research lies in its comprehensive analysis of the war’s impact on Ukraine’s logistics system in the context of transit and export functions, as well as in the determination of strategic directions for infrastructure development, taking into account the experience of 2022–2024. Practical significance. The findings can be applied by government institutions to optimize Ukraine’s transport strategy, facilitate integration into European transport corridors, and restore logistics chains in the post-war period.
