Last week, the House Appropriations Committee voted on the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025 ( https://docs.house.gov/meetings/AP/AP00/20240710/117503/BILLS‐118‐FC‐AP‐FY2025‐AP00‐FY25LHHSFullCommitteeMark.pdf ) and the result was to increase funding for the block grant used to prevent and treat substance use disorders (SUDs). The increase comes at the expense of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an agency that has squandered much of the funding it got to fight the prescription opioid problem beginning more than a decade ago.
