This article describes in detail the problem of adaptation of first-year students to study at a higher education institution. The article focuses on examining the complex aspects that affect students during their transition from high school to the university environment. The article examines the difference between the conditions of study in a school and in a higher education institution, and also takes into account new forms of activity, methods of study and requirements that arise before students during their admission to the university. The influence of these factors on academic success, social integration and general personality development of students was also analyzed. In the process of writing the article, the stages of transition that students go through during adaptation, such as the introduction of new teaching methods, the organization of educational activities, changes in the social environment and increased level of requirements, were considered. In the article, the authors offer a deep and comprehensive view of the problem of adaptation of first-year students, presenting the results of their analysis and conclusions that may indicate ways to improve the adaptation process of higher education.
