Objectives This descriptive study investigates the mediating effects of social-emotional and communication competence on the relationship between the proactivity of family health and the personality of nursing students. Methods Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 157 nursing students from two universities in G city, from June 1 to June 15, 2023. The SPSS/23.0 program was used to analyze the data with descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and mediation effect analysis were performed using PROCESS Macro’s parallel mediation model analysis and Bootstrap. Results The research subject’s personality was assessed by Family health (r=.41, p<.001), Social-emotional competency (r=.45, p<.001), and Communication ability (r=.49, p<.001) and seemen to have a positive correlation. As a result of testing the parallel multiple mediation effect, the partial mediating effect of social-emotional competency and communication ability was confirmed in the relationship between family health and personality. In other words, the direct path from nursing students’ family health to personality and the indirect path to personality through social-emotional competency and communication ability were significant. Conclusions To improve the character level of nursing students and strengthen their family health, social-emotional competencies, and communication skills, it is necessary to develop curricular and non-curricular programs in nursing education and continuous between home, school, and society.
