Abstract: Geological hazards and their mitigation and search for natural resources are the two main research themes for any geo-researcher working in Pakistan. Geological hazards as October 08, 2005 great earthquake and the prevailing energy crisis in the country support the above said research themes as both the problems have crucial socio-economic impact on Pakistan. The present study is an effort to contribute in this regard. Data for nine seismic lines were taken from Land Mark Resources, Pvt. Islamabad; the survey carried out in 1994 in Joyamir area of Chakwal, Punjab, Pakistan. Analysis and interpretation were carried out for the said data with the aim to evaluate its hydro-carbon potential and potential for future earthquakes. Results prove the possibility of hydrocarbon existence evident from the subsurface images of structural traps, source rocks, cap rocks and thermal conditions. Results also prove the possibility of major earthquake in future due to sufficient accumulation of energy in the form of crustal shortening measured in this study. However, micro seismicity due to water and hydrocarbon extraction activities in this area is slicing the release of stored energy and diminishing the risk of major earthquake consequently.
