The development of contemporary urban sculpture in China starkly illustrates the myriad contradictions and trials inherent in the process of modernization within Chinese society. From the middle of the 19th century Chinese urban sculpture faces a dilemma: the global assimilation and the following traditional Chinese aesthetics. The solution to this problem was achieved through the combined efforts of generations of Chinese sculptors.
