English-only version of the presentation “Open Access and the Transformation of Scholarly Communication,” updated to Version 3 (2025).This slide deck provides a comprehensive overview of developments in Open Access (OA), copyright considerations, immediate OA policies, persistent identifiers (PIDs), research evaluation (including altmetrics), and informal scholarly communication such as social media and preprints.Version 3 is designed specifically for international dissemination and reflects the latest trends in Japan’s scholarly communication ecosystem as of November 2025.This work also highlights the evolving roles of preprint servers, integration with institutional repositories, reliability assessment of preprints, and risk mitigation strategies. This Version 3 builds upon the visibility achieved by the previous releases.Version 1 and Version 2 have together accumulated over 660 views and 654 downloads on Zenodo as of November 2025, demonstrating sustained interest in the topic of Open Access and scholarly communication.
