Abstract Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Despite advances in treatment, the high fatality rate results from a typically late diagnosis. Screening and early detection have become critical strategies to reduce mortality by identifying lung cancer at an earlier, manageable stage. This review summarizes the evolving landscape of lung cancer screening, presents key evidence from major trials, evaluates the benefits and challenges of low-dose computed tomography, discusses the integration of biomarkers and artificial intelligence, and highlights the challenges in deploying these advances in diverse populations, including India.
