This white paper documents a behavioral pattern in which conversational AI interventions disrupt a user’s internal momentum cycle following self-generated success. When a user produces an idea, pitch, breakthrough, or realization they feel proud of, that success initiates a reinforcing loop of confidence, motivation, and mastery development. However, unsolicited refinement, rewriting, reframing, or comparison can interrupt this upward cycle. The paper identifies the psychological mechanisms underlying both the “winner effect” and the opposing “wiener effect,” and accounts for the emotional and developmental consequences of momentum disruption within AI-assisted environments.
