This article presents the results of an analysis and systematization of the theoretical foundations for ensuring state social security. A definition of social security is formulated. Demographic indicators of the Russian Federation, as well as indicators of the socioeconomic status of the population, are analyzed. The components of the social security structure, identified through a content analysis of Russian scientific literature, are identified.
