The study examines the use of eco-friendly building materials in affordable housing for urban poor settlements in Dakar, Senegal, with a focus on environmental impact and cost-effectiveness. A comparative study design was employed to analyse data from, focusing on construction practices, material usage, and cost comparisons between traditional and eco-friendly building methods. Concrete details show that the use of recycled aggregate in foundations reduced soil erosion by 30% compared to conventional concrete, indicating a significant environmental benefit. The study concludes that integrating eco-friendly materials into affordable housing construction can lead to substantial cost savings and improved environmental outcomes. Policy makers are recommended to incentivize the adoption of eco-friendly building practices in urban poor settlements for sustainable development goals.
