Biodiversity Conservation Challenges and Opportunities in Kenyan Protected Areas: An Intervention Study

Kenya is home to several protected areas that serve as critical ecosystems for biodiversity conservation. A mixed-methods approach combining interviews with local communities and surveys among park rangers to gather qualitative and quantitative data on biodiversity conservation efforts and barriers. The analysis revealed a significant p = 0. 01 (95% CI: -0. 32 to -0. 64) in the perceived effectiveness of current conservation strategies, indicating that current methods are underperforming in mitigating threats. Protected areas in Kenya face substantial challenges in biodiversity conservation, primarily due to human activities and natural disasters. These findings underscore the urgent need for improved intervention strategies. Intervention studies should prioritise community engagement and integrated management approaches to enhance biodiversity conservation efforts in Kenyan protected areas.
