Charles Strozier, J. Lee Shneidman, Ralph Colp, Jr., and Paul Elovitz presented aspects of their relationships with their fathers from childhood to maturity in a sensitive, insightful, and personal way. The presenters discussed the professional, intellectual, and emotional accomplishments of their fathers. Their oedipal working through — despite the feelings of love, respect, idealization, fear, anger, pain, or disappointment that were generated between father and son — became an integral component to the historical and autobiographical writings they produced. The honest, open sharing of their experiences resulted in a very lively and engaging discussion.
