Symbolic Mechanics — Volume XI formalizes intimacy as a boundary operation emerging from the interaction of three core parameters: 1. Visibility (V) — the structural resolution and capacity of the internal room 2. Spotlight (S) — the temporal gating mechanism regulating incoming access 3. Δ (Delta) — the directional alignment that determines toward whom the boundary opens This volume establishes intimacy not as a psychological trait, but as a mechanical state requiring simultaneous satisfaction of structural clarity (V) and temporal permission (S), modulated by Δ as the directional selector. Core contributions include: • definition of V as the structural determinant of boundary capacity • definition of S as the gating controller for boundary opening • the dual-parameter threshold model (V-threshold × S-threshold) • Δ as a non-emotional directional variable governing openness • the return-load mechanism after boundary closure • evaluative subsystems reactivated during re-illumination • the formalization of the 2×2 V × S boundary configuration states (Stable-Selective, Stable-Expressive, Closed-Protective, Open-Reactive) Volume XI reframes intimacy as a temporary mechanical configuration of the symbolic boundary rather than a stable interpersonal style. Boundary patterns arise from V–S interaction dynamics, not personality structure. This work links earlier volumes on visibility collapse, evaluative pressure, and boundary physics, and forms the theoretical substrate for intimacy, attachment behaviour, and relational permeability in later volumes.
