A Prospective Observational Study on Drug Utilization Patterns and Rational Prescribing in Prepartum Care

This study investigates drug utilization patterns among prepartum patients to promote safe and rational prescribing practices during pregnancy. Pregnancy involves physiological changes that necessitate careful management to safeguard maternal and fetal health. Complications such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, anemia, infections, and hyperemesis gravidarum pose significant risks to mothers, while fetal complications include intrauterine growth restriction, preterm birth, congenital anomalies, and stillbirth. Prepartum care plays a vital role in early identification and management of these risks, but it requires prudent drug use to avoid teratogenic or adverse effects. This research analyzes prescribing trends by collecting data from pregnant women attending antenatal clinics, focusing on the frequency, types, and indications of medications prescribed during the prepartum period. The study emphasizes the necessity of adherence to clinical guidelines to ensure the appropriateness and safety of prescribed drugs.
